INDORE: After a brief respite in morning hours due to formation of clouds, temperature in city soared throughout the day and touched 42.5 degree Celsius on Thursday.
Temperature in most parts of the state remained high, with the hottest city being Khajuraho at 47.5 degree Celsius. In Malwa-Nimar region, the highest maximum temperature was recorded at Khargone at 46 degree Celsius.

The minimum temperature in Malwa-Nimar also remained high and in Indore, it was recorded at 28 degree Celsius, three degrees above normal.
While the temperature is likely to remain same over the region on Friday as well, the Meteorological department has predicted possibility of light rain, thunderstorm and dust storms over parts of northern and eastern Madhya Pradesh including Neemuch, Mandsaur, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Katni, Umaria, Shahdol, Dindori, Mandla, Chhatarpur and Panna.
Meanwhile, possibility of heatwave is still persistent over districts of Khargone, Shajapur, Rajgarh, Jabalpur, Chhindwara, Damoh, Sagar and Chhatarpur. Met has declared an ‘orange’ alert in these regions.
“A cyclonic circulation is active over Rajasthan as well as south west Uttar Pradesh which can result in light rainfall or thunderstorms over neighbouring parts of Madhya Pradesh,” Gurudutt Mishra, Indian Meteorological Department official said.
In Indore on Thursday morning the relative humidity was at 40 per cent, whereas the wind speed throughout the day remained around 15-20 kmph in westerly and north-westerly direction. Despite two cyclonic circulation over north-west Rajasthan and over Kutch and west Rajasthan, hot winds from Gujarat kept the city’s temperature high.
