INDORE: Sonkatch police on Wednesday recorded statement of the family members of the minor girl and the youth, who had committed suicide by consuming poison in jungle of Daulatpur village.
Bodies of 17-year-old Radhika Patel and 22-year-old Ankit Kamdar, residents of Kampel in Khudel, were found in Daulatpur village on Tuesday evening.
Police said that the girl had called Ankit’s family members before taking the extreme step.
In the conversation, she told them that they had chosen to die together since they were not being allowed to live together. Ankit’s parent informed the girl’s family. Subsequently, they started looking for the duo in jungles.
After not finding the two their family members reached Sonkatch police station. The girl’s parents lodged an abduction complaint against Ankit, while the youth's parents lodged a missing complaint. On their complaint, police started looking for the duo and found them dead in jungles.
Police recovered a suicide note from possession of the deceased. In the note, they mentioned the same reason behind the suicide. They wrote that no one had helped them elope and none of their friends or family members should be troubled.
Their family members told police that the girl had failed in Class XI examination, whereas the youth was in college. Both were from the same community and village. They claimed that they had come to know about their affair a few days ago. The youth’s father is a government teacher.
The bodies were sent for postmortem examination and later handed over to families.
“We are investigating the case. Bodies were handed over to family members,” Sonkatch police station in charge Pankaj Dwivedi said.
The couple had fled from their respective houses on Monday morning and villagers had also seen them eloping.
