Criminal cases against half the candidates from Ujjain

INDORE: Nearly half the candidates of major political parties contesting from seven constituencies of Ujjain have either been booked or convicted in a case. Seven - five Congress, two BJP - out of 14 candidates of Ujjain have cases pending against them.
The highest number of cases is pending against Congress candidate from Tarana, Mahesh Parmar, who has been accused of fraud, causing grievous injury and rioting.
Congress candidate from Khachrod Dilip, Gurjar also has two criminal cases against him. While he has been convicted in one, the second case is still pending. He was convicted in a case of rioting, the appeal for which is pending before Bhopal sessions court. Gurjar was convicted and awarded one-year imprisonment and Rs500 fine under Section 147 and three month imprisonment and Rs200 fine under Section 143 of IPC.
BJP's Ujjain north candidate Paras Jain has been accused of disobeying the order passed by a public servant and Congress candidate from Ujjain South Rajendra Vashishth has been accused of rioting and protests both over water related issues. BJP candidate from Ujjain south has been accused of bribery, and a case is pending against him at Ujjain court. Congress candidate from Mahidpur assembly has been charged in a case for not giving maintenance to his elderly parents.
