Dysfunctional Jalood pumps leave Indoreans ‘water-less’
INDORE: Supply of Narmada water continued to remain affected for sixth day in a row owing to dysfunctional pumps at Jalood on Thursday. Ten overhead tanks of west parts of city remained empty, while three others could not be filled to their full capacity.
Tanks in Bilawali, Radio Colony, Cotton Adda, Chandan Nagar, Nagin Nagar, Ambikapuri, Scheme-74, Scheme-54, Scheme-94, and Krishi Nagar remained empty.
Tanks in Bhagirathpura, Mahaveer Nagar and Buddh Nagar could not be filled to their full capacity. None of these tanks could be filled to more than 1.5m.
Civic body officials said that increase in level of water in Omkareshwar dam has been affecting pumping work at Jalood for past six days. “Heavy rainfall in Jabalpur and nearby region is forcing release of excess water from Bargi dam. Consequently, it has increased water level at Omkareshwar dam causing flood-like condition at Jalood pumping station,” said IMC Narmada project official Sanjeev Shrivastava.
“The water level at Jalood intake-well has gone up to 147m,” he added.
