Indore: Fish found dead in pond near Bijasan Temple
INDORE: People living near Bijasan Tekri woke up to the sight of hundreds of dead fish floating in a pond on Monday morning. Nearly 400 fish were found dead in the pond located next to Bijasan Temple.
While the exact cause of death was not clear, Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) officials suspect poisoning caused death of fish.
Civic body was going on with beautification of the pond and was engaged in shifting of fish from the pond to Sirpur Lake for proposed development work.

When fishermen engaged in shifting of fish went to the pond on Monday morning, hundreds of fish were found dead and floating on water.
“We had already shifted over a thousand fish from the pond on Sunday. The remaining was left for today. But, unfortunately most of them were found dead,” claimed Sunil Chouksey, one of the fishermen while speaking to TOI.
He claimed it to a case of poisoning. “The water level was sufficient. Sudden death of fish is due to be poisoning of the water,” he claimed.
Fishermen informed IMC and officials arrived at the site to ascertain the exact reason behind death of fish.

IMC’s zonal officials also suspected that the reason to be poisoning of water. “Some miscreants might have poisoned the water,” said Manish Pandey, IMC’s zonal official.
He said that they are also suspecting involvement of local shopkeepers. “Some of the shopkeepers were earlier issued eviction notices. Out of frustration, they might have poisoned the water,” he said, adding that both dead and surviving fish have been removed from the pond.
Officials of various departments including pollution control board and fishery department were informed about the incident.
IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh said that they are getting the pond water tested to understand the actual reason behind the deaths. “Water samples have been collected and we are waiting for test reports. Action would be taken on basis of test results,” he said.
