Indore Municipal Corporation demolishes house for overhead tank construction
INDORE: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Monday brought down a residential structure in Azad Nagar. Civic body officials claimed that the construction was illegal and the occupant was not ready to vacate. “The entire construction was illegal. A notice was also served in name of the occupants earlier, but they were not ready to vacate. So we went ahead and demolished the construction after vacating household items inside,” said IMC deputy commissioner MS Chouhan.

He added that an overhead tank with 15lakh-litre capacity has been proposed to be constructed in the area and the structure was coming in the way.
A team of 100 staff of IMC’s removal wing along with official and personnel from nearby police station reached the area at around 11.30am. It took about two hours for IMC staff to remove belongings of occupants before they could start razing the construction.
Occupants also tried to put up resistance and accused authorities of being biased. They were however pacified after police intervention.
A family of some seven people lived in the house. “We had been living in this house for 100 years and a matter in this regard is already pending in court. How can they just come and force us to leave the house,” said Vicky Mittal, one of the occupants. “Most houses in the area have been constructed illegally. Why is it that only our house is being demolished,” he said.
