INDORE:
Female sanitation workers will no longer have to wear blue saris on work as Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has relaxed this norm for them.
A decision in this regard was taken on Sunday in a
meeting of various worker unions’ members with IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh.
IMC commissioner Asheesh Singh said that they had decided to relax
dress code compulsion norm for female workers.
“The female workers had some issues with dress code owing to which the compulsion has been removed,” he said, adding that from now they would not have to wear blue sari provided by IMC during work.
IMC sanitation workers engaged in cleaning and road sweeping work had complained of facing problem while travelling in city buses for work.
“We had been protesting against compulsion of blue saris for female workers as citizens often misbehave or do not treat them properly because of blue saris,” said Pratap Karosia, a union leader, who was present in the meeting.
Union leaders also raised issues related to biometric attendance, fix timing for female workers and provision of benefits of seventh pay commission to workers. The commissioner on their demand instructed officials concerned to collect biometric attendance once in a day. He also instructed them to take work from female
staff in only one shift or fix timing.
