Indore: More patients return home early with new ICMR protocol
INDORE: The new discharge policy of Indian council of Medical Research has proved to be a boon for Covid-19 patients as well as hotspot cities like Indore.
Indore has discharged many Covid-19 patients in last 18 days since implementation of new policy as it did in earlier 40 days. According to records of CMHO office, 977 patients were discharged after May 12 till May 30. Before that 974 persons were discharged.
CMHO Praveen Jadia said, "Rate of discharge of patients have increased substantially with implementation of new ICMR protocol."
The new policy by ICMR revised on May 10 allowed mild and moderately-ill patients to be discharged from hospital 10 days after onset of symptoms, if there is no fever and no need for oxygen therapy for three days, without testing them before discharge.
It stated that severely-ill patients should test negative once after clinical recovery. It came into implementation in Indore from May 13.
The first group of 10 patients was discharged on April 6 after getting cured from MRTB and SAIMS and since then this continued and the number picked up after implementation of new policy.
On May 24, the number of recovered patients have outnumbered the active cases for the first time since outbreak of pandemic in the city with 1476 recovered while 1472 under treatment. Then same thing happened on May 26, with recovered patient number remaining at 1537, while active at 1526.
After this, recovered patient number gained momentum and increased its difference with the active cases. The difference in the recovered persons and discharged persons has increased in the last three days. Also, the maximum recovery rate for the day remained at 18.10% on May 19 followed by 10.59% on May 2, 10.18% on May 6. The recovery rate for the day on May 28 and 29 remained at 7.64% and 5.74%.
