INDORE: Just about 10 per cent firms have adapted to industry 4.0 or smart manufacturing technologies as against the required rate of 40 per cent due to lack of clarity and knowledge, industry experts said.
In Indore, a hub for MSME, the adaption rate is slow because people do not want to shift to technology, do not compare investments to returns and are unaware of technological advancements, experts said at an workshop organsied by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with Department of Heavy Industry, Government of India.

Girish Parundekar, an expert on Industry 4.0 said, “If you want to struggle for your existence and want to be in the list of the survival for the fittest, one must adopt changes quickly. Technology, innovations and habits everything should be changed with time and this is what industry 4.0 does to units.”
Parundekar said, in India adaption to industry 4.0 should happen at a rate of 40 per cent but the country lags and small-scale industries are about 5 years behind large-scale firms due to lack of knowledge sharing.
Experts said industry 4.0 will reduce time, energy money and provide real time data enhancing efficiencies.
Ankur Basu, director – Advisory (IoT Competency), at an advisory services said, “In cities like Indore adaption to smart manufacturing technologies will bring more jobs and skill. People do not understand where to start with but actually they should start and map existing projects with journey for desired results.”

Experts said it’s a myth that smart manufacturing reduce jobs but if it is taking up one job from the market, it is also creating avenues for new jobs in the industry.
Naresh Kantoor, member, CII National Smart Manufacturing Council emphasized on the importance of collaborative robots in the industries.
He said Cobots increases human and robot efficiency and improves functionality at small and mid-sized manufacturers.
