MP: 2 held with 28 pistols, live cartridges in Burhanpur
INDORE: In a major haul, Jabalpur Special task force on Tuesday arrested two persons with 28 country-made pistols and 20 cartridges in Burhanpur.
The accused were attempting to smuggle the arms into Rewa and Satna areas threatening to spark violence during coming assembly elections, an official release said.
The Jabalpur police had received a tip-off about one Iqbal Singh Sikligar, a resident of Pachori village in Burhanpur district, was supplying arms in the area to prospective customers.
Subsequently a ream of STF reached Burhanpur to trace the accused.
The team received information that the accused was moving towards Satna on a motorcycle. A trap was laid and after a brief chase, the motorcycle was caught on Khaknar road.
Police found 27 country-made pistols and 20 live cartridges on Iqbal Singh. A pistol was found with his accomplice Patlya Waskale, a resident of Burhanpur.
The STF has booked the accused under relevant sections of Arms Act. They were produced before a court and send on a police remand for five days. STF was in the process of interrogating the accused to ascertain the identities of the customers who were attempting to procure the arms
