Indore: City police stations yet to get their tehsils
INDORE: The functioning of newly-constituted tehsils in Indore city seems to have hit an administrative hurdle as there has been a delay in assigning the city’s 34 police stations to these tehsils for ensuring maintenance of the law and order situation.
After state government gave its nod to creation of new tehsils in city, five more tehsils were carved out of Indore (Juni Indore) tehsil on the basis population and revenue land records as the main components, taking total number of tehsils in urban area to six.
The new tehsils were--- Kanadiya, Bicholi Hapsi, Malharganj, Khudel and Rau. The administrative work in these tehsils has started from January 1.
While revenue boundaries of these six tehsils have been decided, 34 police stations (falling in city limits) are yet to be assigned their administrative tehsils.
Sources say that one of the main reasons why this work has been delayed is that most of the sensitive areas in city were falling under jurisdictions of just a few police stations. This, the sources said, would have increased the burden on respective sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs) when it came to maintaining law and order in these areas.
At present, there are 11 police stations under jurisdiction of Juni Indore tehsil, which covers divisional commissionerate, district collectorate, MP high court (Indore bench), district court and Khajrana area while there are only two police stations under Sanyogitaganj tehsil.
“The process of marking police stations among six tehsils of the city is in the last stage. Till then, cases concerning the administration are being heard by SDMs as per the revenue boundaries of their tehsils,” ADM Kailash Wankhede told TOI.
