State govt seeks details of MGM diploma seats

Indore: After state government has asked MGM medical college to submit their report on availability of faculty, clinical equipment, hospital beds and occupancy, in order to convert diploma seats into PG degree, college officials have alleged that conversion of seats will violate rules of MCI act. College officials claimed that according to MCI act, around 50% diploma seats will be reserved for government medical officers so that they can do diploma and get specialized to strengthen primary and secondary health centres.
The act further says that reservation is only in diploma seats and not in PG seats.If diploma seats are converted to PG seats, no reservation will be available for medical officers. Medical officers are unhappy with the decision. “The new decision violates MCI act. However, if they think upgrade of seats is necessary for college and doctors, the importance of public services should also be kept in mind. If diploma seats are converted to PG seats, they should provide 50% reservation in PG seats now so that medical officers can specialize and provide better health services,” said Dr Madhav Hassani, general secretary of MP medical officer’s association.
