Arunachal Pradesh governor dissolves sixth legislative assembly

Under the provisions of Article 174 (2) (b) of the Constitution, Mishra accepted the advice of the cabinet and signed the order, dissolving the assembly with immediate effect, an official communique informed.

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, along with his council of ministers, on Sunday submitted his resignation to Governor Brig (Retd) BD Mishra and requested him to dissolve the sixth legislative assembly of the state. The governor has accepted the resignation and requested Khandu and the council of ministers to continue till the new government is sworn in.
Under the provisions of Article 174 (2) (b) of the Constitution, Mishra accepted the advice of the cabinet and signed the order, dissolving the assembly with immediate effect, an official communique informed.
The governor conveyed his appreciation to the chief minister for successfully running the state administration during his tenure.
The ruling BJP in the state has gained absolute majority to form the next government, by winning 41 seats, including three unopposed. Opposition Congress, which won 42 seats during the 2014 assembly polls in the state, has been reduced to only four seats this time.
Janata Dal (United), which contested in Arunachal for the first time, bagged seven seats while another new entrant, National People's Party, won five seats. One seat has gone to an Independent. The BJP had also won both the Lok Sabha seats by a huge margin.
