Arunachal Pradesh governor urges Amit Shah to bolster state police force

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh governor Brigadier (retd) Dr B D Mishra on Monday requested Union home minister Amit Shah to initiate measures to strengthen the state police to tackle insurgency in the troubled Tirap, Changlang and Longding districts of the state.
The governor, who called on the minister in the national capital, emphasised on providing adequate funds for accommodation facilities to the lower rung personnel.
He also stressed on upgrade of riot control training and riot control equipment, an official communique said. Besides discussing the security scenario of the state, particularly in Tirap, Changlang and Longding, the governor also briefed the Union minister regarding jails in the state.
The governor also shared the anguish of the people over militancy and the barbaric killing of NPP MLA Tirong Aboh and 10 others with Shah , the communique added.
During his meeting with defence minister Rajnath Singh, Mishra discussed various initiatives of the armed forces in the state for the youth and for the territorial integrity of the nation. He briefed the minister about the 'Pay Back to Society' programme of the local officers of Arunachal Pradesh in the armed forces for motivating locals in joining the Army, Navy and the Air Force.
Mishra also discussed about the missing AN-32 aircraft and apprised the minister of the initiatives of the state government in the search and rescue operations. The governor also met Union minister for textiles, women & child development Smriti Zubin Irani and called for promotion of traditional textiles of Arunachal at the national and the international level.
He said the designs and patterns of traditional weaving of Arunachal Pradesh are unique, attractive, exclusive and one-of-its-kind in the world. "Each and every tribe of Arunachal Pradesh has different colour and design to symbolize their identity," the governor added.

Reminding the Union minister of her recent visit to Itanagar, the governor reiterated the challenges of local traditional weavers and requested her to start cotton and silk banks in the state. The governor stressed on preservation of the age-old loin loom tradition.
The Union minister told the governor that handloom Park would be developed in the state capital where loin loom weaving could be taken up adequately and all its aspects taken care of, the communique said.
