ITANAGAR: An all-woman team, comprising 18 officers and soldiers from the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and ITBP, accomplished a unique feat in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh recently by becoming the first all-woman team to complete adventure patrolling in the Himalayas.
The patrol, led by the Indian Army woman officers, was launched on August 10 from Kibithu in remote Anjaw district of the state.
The route they covered required navigation skills in difficult terrain criss-crossing streams and dense forests, Kohima-based defence spokesman Col Chiranjit Konwer said in a statement on Friday.
The spirited young women underwent training which included physical-conditioning exercises, basic lessons on mountaineering and jungle survival.
The women in uniform exhibited the tremendous potential of 'Nari Sakti' by showcasing their grit and determination and truly epitomized 'women's empowerment', General officer Commanding (GoC) in chief of Eastern Command Lt General M M Naravane said, while appreciating their grit, professionalism and determination. He added that such events give strength to the nation.
