India-China army meet in Arunachal Pradesh
ITANAGAR: A first-ever border personnel meeting, where Major Generals of the Indian Army and the Chinese PLA troops came together for discussion, was organized by the Indian Army at Bumla, near Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, on Friday.
Situated 42km north of Tawang town and located at an altitude of 15,000 feet, Bumla is one of the five designated venues for meeting between border personnel of the two armies.
Since border personnel of the two countries started holding meetings at Bumla in 1990, this was the first-ever event when Major Generals of the two armies were involved.
Major General PG K Menon led the Indian delegation with Brig Zubin Bhatnagar as his deputy while the Chinese Army was represented by Major General Li Xi Zhong, a defence communique stated. The meeting included hoisting of the national flags followed by a cordial interaction during which both sides reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen ties and maintain peace along the LAC.
Both the delegation leaders expressed satisfaction with the mutual trust and harmony between the two countries. The communique added that the meeting was a crucial milestone in the ongoing efforts by both the countries to improve interactions at the diplomatic and military levels.
