Permanent NDRF batallion for Arunachal Pradesh
ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh was given a permanent battalion of the National Disaster Response Force on Saturday and Chief Minister Pema Khandu laid the foundation stone for the 12th battalion headquarters at Hollongi, near here.
Speaking on the occasion, Khandu said the permanent stationing of the NDRF battalion in Arunachal Pradesh will not only help the state, but will also be available for service to neighbouring Assam.

He said the fight against natural calamities and man-made disaster in the state would be strengthened by the presence of NDRF and lives and property would be saved.
To fight calamities, the state police forces and the central police forces are also being equipped. Awareness and disaster drill are being conducted among the civilian population, Khandu said.
The chief minister thanked the MHA for the project and said it was due to the efforts of the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju that the battalion headquarters was being set up in Arunachal Pradesh.
The headquarters were first proposed in 2014 but was delayed due to land availability issues, which were solved by voluntary contribution by land donors, he added.
