ITANAGAR: Incessant rain in the past couple of days has left a trail of devastation in Arunachal Pradesh with reports of landslides and floods pouring in from various parts of the state.
Reports of landslides and disruption of surface communication were reported from West Kameng, East Kameng, East Siang, West Siang and Pakke-Kessang districts. The deputy commissioner of West Kameng, Dr Sonal Swaroop, has restricted movement of all types of vehicles from the Pinjoli Bridge point to Tenga from July 11 to August 15 as landslides have blocked the Bhalukpong-Charduar-Tawang (BCT) Road.
The DC has issued an advisory, asking people to avoid the BCT Road until it is fully restored and take the Orang-Kalaktang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga (OKSRT) Road instead.
During this closure period, the Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) has been directed to clear the debris and take up road restoration work on a war footing by deploying maximum manpower and other resources.
The Seppa-Tezpur Road is also blocked near Jayanti village in East Kameng district due to massive landslides caused by torrential rainfall. Heavy rain for the past few days has disrupted surface communication in parts of West Siang district as well. The main road near Aalo helipad is in bad shape, creating traffic snarls. However, restoration work is on. With the state capital witnessing landslides, mudslides, and road blockades due to heavy rain in the last couple of days, the district administration has ordered closure of all government and private schools in the capital for three days till Sunday. The Itanagar-Naharlagun stretch of NH-415, which is being upgraded as a four-lane highway, is the worst hit.
