Two drug peddlers arrested in Itanagar

Arunachal Pradesh Police on Saturday arrested two drug peddlers from Itanagar and recovered over 36 grams of drugs from their possession.

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Police on Saturday arrested two drug peddlers from Itanagar and recovered over 36 grams of drugs from their possession.
Among those arrested is Sosar Punung (21), who is the brother-in-law of Takam Pario, the Congress candidate from Palin assembly constituency, and Bengia Rigia (20), who is the son of People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) president Kahfa Bengia, Itanagar SP Tume Amo said.

Punung was held from a government quarter at Vivek Vihar area of the capital city and 31.3 grams of heroin recovered from his possession, Amo said. "Punung, who is the brother-in-law of Takam Pario, the Congress candidate from Palin assembly constituency, was staying in the house along with his friends. However, his friends were innocent as they have no knowledge about his involvement in drug trade," he added,
The SP further said that Rigia was arrested from his house at Mowb-II and five grams of heroin were found in his possession. "Police also recovered 58 long and 42 small plastic tubes that were used to sell drugs," the SP informed, adding that the quantity of heroin found in the long tube cost Rs 1,500 while that in the small tube cost Rs 1,000.
Amo added that based on specific information about drug peddling going on in Itanagar, the capital police had constituted a small team led by him along with SDPO and an inspector and launched an investigation which led to the arrest of the duo.
Both Pario and Bengia could not be contacted for their comments on the matter.
