Two held in Arunachal Pradesh for selling wild animal meat

ITANAGAR: Two people were arrested for allegedly selling wild animal meat at Shi-Yomi disctrict of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday. The accused have been produced before an executive magistrate and a case has been filed in the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972, an official release informed.
Following information that wild animals are being hunted and their meat sold in local shops, a team of forest and police officials led by West Siang divisional forest officer Abhinav Kumar raided a roadside shop near Hirgo village in Shi-Yomi district.
Mechuka range forest officer Marbom Sora, who was a part of the investigating team, visited the shop posing as a customer. After waiting for almost an hour, a group of locals came to the shop, carrying a large Indian civet hidden inside a basket. Officials then zeroed in on the scene and arrested the culprits.
Authorities found that the shop, which owned by one Tatu Kiri and located near the Siko Dido Waterfalls on the way to Mechuka, has been selling the meat of wild animals. The two accused, Tatu Kiri and Sunil Kiri, were taken into custody.
