JAIPUR: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot's home district Jodhpur has conducted the highest number of Covid-19 tests in the state and has managed to keep the mortality rate just above 1% in sharp contrast to Jaipur where the death rate is above 4% and samplings per lakh population is nearly half of Jodhpur.
Jodhpur and Jaipur are the two worst-hit districts and collectively reported 3,296 cases, which accounted for 40% of the total cases and 56% of the deaths.

But, there is a difference in containment strategies in both the districts. While Jaipur accounts for 23% of the total cases and 47% of the deaths, Jodhpur accounts for 17% cases and 9% deaths.
Jaipur has tested 751 persons per lakh but Jodhpur's figure is almost double at 1,440. Similarly, the number of samples tested in Jodhpur is 69,617 compared to 63,712 in the capital district. Positive cases in Jaipur is much higher than Jodhpur, which proves that health authorities have tested more people. But in terms of mortality rate and preventing deaths, Jodhpur has managed to score over Jaipur by reporting just 17 deaths at a mortality rate of 1.4%, much less than Jaipur's 4.3%.
Sampling done in Jodhpur and Jaipur is 19% and 17%, respectively. Jodhpur has used testing as a tool to prevent mortality much efficiently than Jaipur. Barring hostpot Ramganj and its nearby areas, cases have been reported in several areas from where patients were brought dead to SMS Hospital due to poor monitoring and surveillance.
As on April 24, Jaipur recorded 17 deaths while 761 tested positive out of 15,790 persons who were examined. By the time 17 deaths were reported in Jodhpur, 1,375 had tested positive after examining 69,617 persons.

However, health department is taking measures to prevent deaths by launching Mission Life Saving (LISA) by using Covid-19 as a tool to prevent deaths. "Aggressive testing based on the logic to identify potential high risk and vulnerable persons is key to saving lives in the pandemic. This facilitates early and timely detection of cases and helps us prevent mortality. This is how Rajasthan has managed to keep the case fatality rate low compared to the national average," said Rohit Kumar Singh, additional chief secretary (health).
Health authorities have identified nine districts which have reported increased number of cases and launched LISA in areas for testing vulnerable groups such as elderly and those suffering from co-morbid conditions.
