JAIPUR: The BJP on Friday staged dharna at various district headquarters as part of its statewide agitation against worsening law and order situation under the Congress rule.
Former MLA and Jaipur city president Mohanlal Gupta led a delegation to the governor and submitted a memorandum alleging that in the last eight months under the Congress rule, the incidents of crime indicate that the rule of law is passe, and criminals had a field day.

He said, the common people are living in fear as the criminals had taken over the state. He pointed out that the state is in anarchy and crime particularly against the weaker sections have been the worst affected.
He said since the Congress government has come to power in December 2018, the number of heinous crimes has reached 3,121 against the Scheduled Castes (SCs). The incident began with a bridegroom alighted from horse and were beaten up in Alwar with the gang-rape of a Dalit in front of her husband at Thanagazi in the same district in May this year. The incident has tarnished the image of the state in the country, he claimed.
Similarly, on July 16 a Dalit youth Harish Jatav was killed and his father due to police inaction and threat from the perpetrators had committed suicide.
The memorandum said according to reports 3,121 incidents of crime have been reported in the state till July of which 1,490 cases the investigation is pending. Similarly, 274 incidents of rape were reported and in 133 cases the criminals are still at large shows the ineffectiveness of police and insensitivity of the government.
The delegation demanded setting up of fast track courts to try heinous crimes like rape and adequate compensation to the victims on the lines of Thangazi gang rape victim. The Ruling Congress however said the dharna and procession by the BJP was to mislead public. tnn
