Jaipur: Bride runs away on wedding day, groom lodges complaint

JAIPUR: In an incident straight out of bollywood flick, a bride in Banswara ran away from her house on the day of her wedding. The groom and his family reached the venue of the wedding and were unaware of the bride’s absence. The groom and his family subsequently filed a complaint with the local police to search for the missing bride.
Bhaya Lal, SHO, Khamera police station in Banswara said, “The bride allegedly ran away hours before the wedding.The groom and his family reached her house and realised that she is not there. Then they left the girl’s house and registered a complaint with us.”
According to sources, the bride ran away with another youth who she was in a relationship with. However, the police have neither confirmed nor denied this claim. The police appear to be clueless on how to progress with the investigation in this matter. “We are not yet sure if the girl left her house willingly or was forced to do so. If she left on her own, then there is not much that we can do about it since she was an adult. If she was forced then we will proceed accordingly. As of now only a complaint has been registered,” the SHO added.
The officials also claimed that the groom’s family, in the complaint, stated that the wedding was decided quite a while back and at that time no one had raised any objections. The SHO further elaborated, “The bride’s parents have claimed that they had no idea of their daughter would take this step. They are unable to tell the time when she left the house. We will talk to them in detail.”
