JAIPUR: A youth died on the spot while another received serious burn injuries when a speeding car which they were travelling in hit a tree and went up in flames on Pradhan Marg in Malviya Nagar area of the city on Tuesday.
At around 1.30am on Tuesday, residents of Pradhan Marg woke up in panic when they heard a loud noise from the road. Some youths who were taking a night walk near the railway tracks alongside the road rushed to the spot to find two youths struggling to get out of a burning car.

“The youth killed in the accident was identified as 17-year-old Ayush Khatri, who was a Class 11 student. His 22-year-old cousin brother Dev Belani, who was driving the car, received serious injuries,” said Raghuveer Singh, station house officer, Malviya Nagar.
Belani, who was driving the car, was taken out with the help of the youths who had collected around the car. His cousin Ayush, who sat next to the driver seat had his leg stuck somewhere inside the immensely damaged car, which had also caught fire, making it difficult for people to pull him out to safety.
Belani’s face and leg suffered burn injuries, while his cousin Ayush, son of Atul Khatri, who is a resident of Hari Marg, was charred to death inside the car.
Police said that Belani, who is a resident of Malviya Nagar, was driving his uncle’s car. He had come to meet his uncle’s family. The two youths had decided to take a drive little knowing it could be their last drive together. “When I reached the spot I saw the tree with which the car had collided with the front of the car torn apart. The impact was so fierce that the tree fell right on top of the car just where the two were sitting,” said Vinod Kumar, sub inspector, Malviya Nagar police station.
Kumar said that the road where the accident took place is quite wide so it’s possible that the driver lost control.
Fire tenders had to be called in to douse the fierce fire. Khatri’s body was sent to Jaipuria Hospital, while Belani was rushed to Sawai Man Singh Hospital for treatment.
