Jaipur crosses 2,000 mark in swine flu cases this year

JAIPUR: The city is still under the scare of swine flu despite increase in temperature. Five persons are undergoing treatment in ICU of Sawai Man Singh Hospital for swine flu-related complications.
So far, this year, Jaipur has crossed the 2,000 mark in number of swine flu cases. More than 42% of the total cases of swine flu reported from the state, are from Jaipur.
“We have 13 patients suffering from swine flu admitted to ICU and swine flu ward,” said Dr Ajit Singh, additional superintendent, SMS Hospital.
However, the hospital administration claimed that there is a declining trend of swine flu in the city. “Earlier we were testing over 100 swab samples for swine flu, now we are receiving 40 to 50 cases of suspected swine flu cases for getting laboratory test done for swine flu,” said Dr CL Nawal, former head of the department (HoD) and senior professor (medicine), SMS hospital.
Dr Nawal said that there are two patients suffering from swine flu having severe difficulties in breathing. “We have put them on invasive ventilator support,” he said.
According to the health department report, 2,009 persons have already been tested positive for swine flu till March 15. Also, in the same period, 14 persons have died. In the state, there were 4,675 persons diagnosed with swine flu and 177 have died of the disease.
Jodhpur has reported highest number of deaths, which are 33. The death rate due to swine flu in Jodhpur is quite high as out of 440 persons found infected with the disease, 33 have died this year so far.

According to the Centre’s report, Rajasthan is leading in number of swine flu deaths and total number of persons tested positive for swine flu. The report has figures till March 10, which shows that 162 persons have died in the state due to swine flu, while 4,551 were found infected with the disease. However, in the same period, there were 3,969 swine flu cases and 118 deaths related to the disease in Gujarat, while in Delhi seven persons died of swine flu and 3,362 were tested positive for the disease.
