JAIPUR: After applying for admissions in universities and colleges, students begin the endless search for hostels that meet their budget and required facilities. Finding an ideal hostel is an uphill task for the outstation students who run from one area to another in the city. TOI scanned areas like Raja Park, Gopalpura Bypass, Mansarover, C-Scheme and Bani Park which are hub for hostels and rented accommodations .
Raja Park turned out to be the most popular destination for students for hostels and paying guest (PG) accommodation.
Its closeness to several institutes has made the area most preferred and expensive. Eateries that have come up in the last three years have also added to its popularity.
Some high-end hostels which are fully air-conditioned, have thumb impression regulated entry and exit, RO water, round-the-clock security, Wi-Fi, dining space, multi-cuisine food, in-house party area, doctor on call that charge from Rs 8,000 to 25,000. Rita Kharbanda of Vatsalya Hostel who has 100 rooms in different locations in Raja Park, said, “The first thing that parents and students look for is safety. Girls and women can go for a walk till late in the night.”
Mansarovar and Gopalpura Bypass are other popular areas for the PG accommodation. These areas have easy connectivity to educational institutes and coaching centres.
Since the area is wide several families have started subletting extra rooms of their houses to the students. Pragya Bhatnagar, a resident of Triveni Nagar, said, “We sublet rooms to girls. Generally, three to four girls stay in a room and most of them prepare for competitive exams like SSC, RAS. There are no security issues in the colony as it is a residential area with CCTV cameras.” Almost all the PGs are very particular about the timings and impose restrictions on the students. Generally, the time limit is till 10pm and after that the students are not allowed to enter the hostel. They follow proper safety guidelines.
Ankita Singh, owner of a girl's PG in C-Scheme, said, “We have both students and working professionals. Jaipur is still an orthodox city so we are very particular about cleanliness and timings. We don’t allow girls to enter and exit the premises after 9.30pm unless it is urgent. We keep their parents or local guardians in loop. The rent ranges from Rs 7,000 to 8,000 for double sharing rooms and Rs 5,000 to 6,000 for triple sharing rooms.”
