Cyclone Daye gives a fresh lease of life to Bisalpur dam

Mild to moderate showers due to the impact of cyclone Daye has brought good amount of water at the catchment area of the Bisalpur dam that caters to the drinking water and irrigation needs of Ajmer, Tonk and Jaipur districts of the state. A minor increase in the water level of Bisalpur dam was witnessed on Monday.

JAIPUR/AJMER: Mild to moderate showers due to the impact of cyclone Daye has brought good amount of water at the catchment area of the Bisalpur dam that caters to the drinking water and irrigation needs of Ajmer, Tonk and Jaipur districts of the state. A minor increase in the water level of Bisalpur dam was witnessed on Monday.
The water level at the Bisalpur dam has reached 309.63 following a good amount of water in its catchment area.
Triveni, a place from where Bisalpur dam receives water, was flowing at the 2.65 metre which means more water will come in next two to three days and it will go to Bisalpur dam.
Impact of Daye cyclone brought some relief for the people of Jaipur, Ajmer and Tonk district. Due to cyclone Daye heavy rainfall was witnessed in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh and also at Chittorgarh.
The rain since Friday night has added to the water levels of Gambhiri river at Chittorgarh. “On Sunday evening, dam constructed on Gambhiri river overflowed and flowing towards Banas river on which Bisalpur dam is situated,” said official of public health and engineering department.
The official added that because the dam on Gambhiri River overflowed therefore five gates of the dam are opened to release 5,000 cusec water. “Water level of Bisalpur dam was 309.59 metre before the rains and on Monday, it reached to 309.63 metre and more water is coming to Bisalpur dam,” added the official.
The official further stated that it depend that how much water would come in the Gambhiri river dam and that decides the future of the water capacity of Bisalpur dam. “Water to the Gambhiri dam is still coming and more water that come in Gambhiri dam then more water will be release in Banas river which bring water to Bisalpur dam,” he said.

PHED department is expecting water around 3.10 meters level in Bisalpur dam and even more water depends on the rains in nearby places of Chittorgarh and even water from the catchment regions of Ajmer and Rajasmand and Bhilwara is expected, “That means 50 centimetres of water will come in Bisalpur dam.”
There was about 25 percent of water was there in the dam before rains and after un-monsoon rains the storage will increase to 35 percent of water. The height of Bisalpur dam is 315.5 meters and PHED department can produce drinking water up to level of 290 meters and looking to the serious condition, PHED made contingence program and reduced the water supply in Jaipur, Ajmer and Tonk. As per schedule fifty percent of supply will be reduce from 1 of October in all three districts.
