JAIPUR: The families of the 10 killed in the accident in Sawai Madhopur on Sunday are still unable to believe that a happy occasion turned into one of the worst days of their lives. A canter carrying women and children, who were on their way to attend a wedding, overturned in Choth Ka Barwara killing 10 and seriously injuring many. As the canter overturned after colliding with a truck, the women and children went flying out of the vehicle with few crashing on the road.
As the mourners trickled in for the funerals, Illiyas, whose mother was killed in the accident, told TOI, “Everyone was going for the wedding at my maternal uncle’s house.
All the women along with the children were travelling together while the rest of us were in other vehicles. I have also lost eight relatives in this accident.
The accident was the beginning of trauma for the kin of those killed and injured. Illiyas alleged that delay in treatment resulted in the demise of his mother and relatives. “The paramedics of the ambulance in which my mother and other injured were taken did not even administer proper treatment. The government health centre didn’t have sufficient medical staff and equipment. I will complain about this negligence,” alleged Illiyas.
No arrests have been made in the case yet with drivers of both the canter and the truck still on the run. The police officials have claimed that they are investigating the matter. While Illiyas was also in Choth Ka Barwara for the wedding, Mohammad Hanif whose mother was also killed in the accident is still in a state of shock.
