JAIPUR/JODHPUR: Thousands of doctors of government hospitals across Rajasthan carried out their duties while wearing black bands and even helmets in protest of the violence against doctors in West Bengal.
Also the doctors belonged to the private hospitals observed a token strike and refrained from seeing the patients at the OPD. However, they continued their services for emergency cases and indoor patients.
The protest termed as “black day” was given by Indian Medical Association (IMA) and All India Federation of government doctors association impacted the hospitals across the state. Several doctors at the Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh hospital and other affiliated hospitals also wore black bands and even helmets to register their protests.
“After the day-long protest in various districts, the associations also submitted their memorandum addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding full safety and legislations for the doctors to the district collectors concerned,” said doctor Ajay Chaudhary, general secretary of All India Federation of Government Doctors Association and President of Rajasthan In-service Association.
Several doctors to mark protest also tied their heads with bandages while working to depict they were injured and were still working. Likewise resident and intern doctors of AIMS, Jodhpur held a symbolic demonstration with white bandages on head and placards for one hour. However, the routine of the hospital was not affected as the doctors chose the lunch hour for the demonstration and later resumed work.
While protesting, they stressed the need for security for doctors in the hospitals and warned that if incidents like this did not stop, there will be dearth of doctors in future.
