JAISALMER: Two miscreants smuggling dodapost opened fire at Barmer police after the latter apprehended them near Balotara in Barmer district on Friday and recovered 420kg dodapost. The duo was nabbed by the cops after the chase. A constable sustained minor injuries and two other motorists were hurt.
The smuggler duo, who are wanted offenders have been identified as Umesh Beniwal (23) and Jagdish Dudi (25) .
The smugglers, who were in a car, in their bid to escape the police, rammed into two bikes on the road, injuring the riders. Balotara Dy SP Chug Singh Sodha said, “We received a tip-off that Beniwal and his aide had gone to MP to purchase dodapost and will return on Friday.” Siwana police on Friday morning conducted blockading and vehicles were checked. The duo broke the blockading and fled.
Police began chasing the car and surrounded it near Moongda government school. The duo then started firing. One bullet, breaking the glass, just went past Siwana SHO, who sustained minor injuries. Police too fired three rounds in response and burst the tyres of the smugglers’ vehicle. tnn
