JAIPUR: Faizan, a 11-year-old boy left home with his friends on Tuesday around 10am, to play in the rain. Little did his family know that this was the last time they were seeing the child, as the next morning, his body was found in a nine-feet pit, dug up at a nearby park.
A resident of Vidhyadhar Nagar, Sector 9, Faizan was the son of a daily wage labourer and youngest of five siblings.
When he did not return home at lunch time, his family started to get worried. After some time, they called up his friends and asked in the neighbourhood, but no one knew anything of his whereabouts.
Mubarak Ali, uncle of Faizan said, “We went to the police station in the evening after exhausting all our options and filed a missing person’s FIR. That night, nobody in the house was able to sleep. Next morning, around 11am, I got a call from police informing that a body of 11-year-boy was found inside a pit in a park. Our entire life turned upside down, only because of the negligence of the Jaipur municipal corporation (JMC), who did not barricade the entire area where there were around six pits.”
Devastated by his son’s death, Faizan’s father began crying loudly, demanding action against the JMC officials. “Just look around the park where a badminton court was made. The pit was full of water and in the rainy season, which is prone to accidents, some precaution should have been taken. No proper barricades or guards were there to prevent anyone from entering there. After this incident came to light, authorities finally woke up and decided to cover up the pits,” said Faizan’s father.
