Rajasthan: FIR against 170 shops for selling overpriced liquor

The state excise department has lodged FIRs against 170 liquor shops across the five districts for selling overpriced liquor. Apart from that, 14 excise inspectors have been chargesheeted for dereliction of duty

JAIPUR: The state excise department has lodged FIRs against 170 liquor shops across the five districts for selling overpriced liquor. Apart from that, 14 excise inspectors have been chargesheeted for dereliction of duty.
The excise department conducted a decoy operation in five districts, including Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer and Alwar, on the sale of overpriced liquor. A total of 173 liquor shops were inspected in five districts.
"We sent 64 teams comprising officials from outside excise department to these districts for the operation.
The official were from commercial taxation, state directorate of revenue intelligence, anti-evasion unit and others," said Prithvi Raj, secretary, finance (revenue) department.
In Jaipur, 93 liquor shops were inspected, 24 in Jodhpur, 20 in Udaipur, 15 in Ajmer and 21 in Alwar. "Of 173 shops inspected, three shops were found to be selling liquor at a normal rate. One shop in Ajmer, which was found to have committed offence for the fourth time, will be shut permanently," he added.
