Fire breaks out at food factory in Kota, goods worth Rs Rs 20 lakh gutted
KOTA: Fire broke out on Thursday morning in three portions of Tirupati Foods Factory in Chambal Industrial Area on DCM road of the city. Losses worth Rs 20-25 lakh have been reported. The fire and smoke inside the factory was so thick that eight fire tenders took two hours and two rounds of water spray to finally control the fire after breaking open the shutter of the factory.
The incident reported on Thursday morning about 5.45 am, following which the fire tenders were rushed to the spot, said fire officer, Kota Municipal Corporation (KMC), Amjad Khan.
Popcorn, namkeen and other snack items are manufactured in the factory that is divided in three portions.
Six fire tenders from KMC and two from DCM factory were engaged to control the fire that could be doused in around two hours after two rounds of water spray. The machinery, raw material and other items in the factory were gutted, the officer said and added that according to the proprietor of the factory the fire is estimated to have damaged goods worth Rs 20-25 lakh. The estimation of exact loss is yet to be carried out, he added. About 20 to 30 workers work in the factory but none of them was present as it was early morning, the fire officer said.
The exact reason for fire is yet to be ascertained as investigation into the matter is underway, he further added.
