KOTA: As per the orders given by director general (prisons) Rajasthan NRK Reddy, five jail staffers, including jailor and four constables, were suspended on Sunday for negligence on duty which resulted into escape of three rape convicts from Jhalawar jail on Saturday.
Several lacunas were found in jail staff’s adherence to safety and security measures in the initial probe led by Kota central jail’s superintendent.
It included the absence of constables at watch tower and barrack gate despite their presence in jail records. Kota central jail superintendent Suman Maliwal on Sunday visited Jhalawar district jail and probed the escape. “As directed by the DG, jailor Vineeta Saxena, head constables Shankarlal and Prabhuram, constables Ramjilal and Gudduram were suspended,” said Maliwal.
Maliwal pointed out that no constable was present at watch tower and gate of ward number 7 at the time of escape despite their presence in jail record. Had there been constables on duty at watch tower and gate, the convicts could not have escaped, she added. The probe report would be sent to state headquarter, she added.
