JAIPUR: After the formation of district level and sub-divisional teams to curb illegal sand mining on June 15, the district administration has so far seized 74 vehicles in the city and one FIR has been lodged at Harmada police station. Most of these vehicles are tractor trolleys, dumpers and trailers.
These vehicles which enter the city are mostly from Tonk, Sawai Madhopur and adjoining areas.
The vehicles have been seized from areas like Kardhani, Dudu, Chomu, Bhakrota, Mansarovar, Pratap Nagar, Muhana, Sanganer, Bagru, Shivdaspura, Renwal, Bagrana Chowki, Jobner, Govindgarh, Tatiyawas, Karni Vihar, Brahampuri and others. Jaipur collector Jagroop Yadav said, “One FIR has been registered at Harmada police station, where two JCBs were seized. A case was registered against four persons for illegal sand mining. The RTO, meanwhile, has been directed to hand over the seized vehicles coming from Tonk and Sawai Madhopur to these teams. They have been instructed not to release these vehicles after issuing challans,” he added.
Earlier, a day after Rajasthan DGP Kapil Garg had admitted that sand mafia was flourishing in the state with the help of government machinery, state mining minister Pramod Bhaya had said, that he was not aware of such a thing, while stating that, “The Congress government has taken ‘immediate action’ against all the cases which have been reported.” The district level team which was constituted by the district administration included additional district collector, 4 additional SP (headquarters) Jaipur City; additional SP (headquarters) Jaipur Rural; mines engineer and district transport officer (DTO), Jaipur.
Even as the police have arrested many dumper drivers transporting bajri in the state, the top bosses involved in the illegal trade continue to evade the police and mining department’s net.
