JAIPUR: Finally, the state government has decided to implement Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). Health minister Raghu Sharma confirmed that the Centre’s scheme will be soon implemented in the state. It will come as a major boost for patients as they were getting only Rs 3 lakh health insurance cover under the state government’s Bhamashah Swasthya Bima Yojana (BSBY).
Now, as the state government has agreed to implement Ayushman Bharat scheme in the state, the health insurance cover will be increased to Rs 5 lakh.
The roadblock in implementation of Ayushman Bharat in the state was that the state has its own BSBY health insurance scheme. The then Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government had also informed the Centre that they had own insurance scheme. But, BJP agreed to implement it by merging the two schemes. However, the present Congress government has also informed the Centre that they have decided to implement the scheme by merging it with BSBY. “We have completed the preparation for implementation of Centre’s Ayushman Bharat in the state, it will soon be implemented,” said the health minister.
He said that the state government will implement the Ayushman Bharat by merging it with BSBY. After the merger, the patients will get cashless insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh.
The scheme will be implemented in the empanelled private hospitals and government-run hospitals of the state. The premium for the scheme will be paid by Centre and the state in 60:40 ratio. He said that the decision has been taken keeping in patients’ interest in mind.
