JAIPUR: In the past two days, four bodies have been recovered from roadsides and pavements in Jaipur. Three others were found dead in different parts of the state. A blistering heatwave is suspected to be the reason.
As per Jaipur police, two bodies of elderly men without any visible injuries were recovered from separate locations from Bais Godam area, a small pavement outside a temple in Banipark on Thursday.
The initial investigation indicates the men died of heat-related issues. The Sodala police which had gone to Bais Godam took the deceased to the mortuary and informed his relatives. “He was later identified as Surendra Buram. He was 80-years-old and a native of West Bengal. He had left his relative’s house but died midway after he collapsed on the road,” said a police official. In the second death reported under Bani Park police station area, Ramdas Sharan (50) was found dead outside a pavement adjacent to a temple on Thursday morning. The cops said that Sharan was a beggar and lived off the alms by devotes.
While only a post-mortem report (PMR) will shed light over Sharan and Burman’s deaths, cops suspect a searing heatwave is turning accounts for a spike in bodies found on roads, near parks, and places frequented by drifters, rickshaw pullers and migrant workers.
An official told TOI that even the most hardened of all drifters, who are attuned to the harshest summers are finding it impossible to endure the heat. “Many of them consume cheap country-made liquor which is hazardous in this temperature which leads to heart arrest too,” the official added.
On Wednesday, Shivdaspura police found the body of an unidentified person near Siroli village and termed the death due to acute dehydration. Later in the day another body was found of man in Amber by the police, “We are waiting post-mortem reports to corroborate causes of deaths. But the heat appears and excessive drinking appears to be the prime reason,” added an official. Meanwhile, reports of heat related deaths were also seen in Jhalawar, Nagaur and Baran.
