JAIPUR: In a quarterly (January-March, 2019) survey conducted by ASQ for Airport Authority of India, Jaipur International Airport has been ranked 22nd out of the 24 airports.
There are 33 parameters on which the airports are surveyed. These include ground transportation to/from the airport, parking facilities, availability of baggage carts/trolleys, waiting time in check-in queue, flight information screens, restaurants, cleanliness of toilets, comfort of waiting areas and behaviour of the staff amongst others.
Talking about the dismal ranking, J S Balhara, director, Jaipur airport, said, “The main reason for this is the on-going construction at the airport because of which other facilities get affected.
Two of the boarding gates have been closed due to the construction. Night operations were also not possible because of the same reason.”
To deal with the space constraints, various infrastructure development projects were started at the airport which are expected to be completed by June. From June 1, flights are expected to start operating at night as well.
“Once the construction work is completed, we will have more space and ease of travelling. I am confident that the ranking for the next quarter will be better,” added Balhara.
The final ranking of the airports is cumulative of the rankings in each quarter. 2018-19, the Jaipur airport had been ranked 17th out of 20 in the country. The survey had put the city airport at 15th place during 2017-18.
