JAIPUR: Heatwave conditions continued and the mercury continued to rise for the third consecutive day on Thursday with Sriganganagar recording 48 degrees Celsius in the state, the highest of the season so far.
Attributing the continued rise in mercury to the active northerly winds, the Jaipur meteorological department said that a few places in the state may get a minor respite, but by and large the heatwave conditions would persist in most parts of the state in the next 24 hours.

Jaipur recorded the warmest morning, with a minimum temperature of 32.2 degrees Celsius, almost 5 degrees above normal. In the afternoon, the maximum temperature settled at 45.2 degrees, the highest in the city so far.
This has also led to increase in the number of patients.
‘Increase water intake to check dehydration’
In the past three days, the footfall of patients complaining of heat stroke, diarrhoea and food poisoning have increased. Doctors are advising patients to increase water intake added with salt and sugar to prevent dehydration.
The sweltering heat prevented people from venturing out of homes and offices.
The continued rise in mercury has also increased the workload of technicians of Jaipur Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Ltd (JVVNL). “From Wednesday evening to Thursday morning, we have attended almost 100 calls of power cuts in various localities. Due to extra load, electricity tripped due to overloaded circuits,” said an officer.

Many people checked apps on their phones to get the accurate temperature. “Even at 10.30am, the maximum temperature in Jaipur was 44 degrees Celsius, according to various weather apps,” said Manoj Tanwani while returning from a walk at Central Park in the city.
Sriganganagar was followed by Churu with a maximum of 47.7 degrees Celsius, Bikaner 47, Jaisalmer 45.7, Kota 45.4, Jodhpur 44.6, Barmer 44, Ajmer 43.8 and Udaipur 42.8 degrees Celsius.
