Jaipur, Jodhpur to go cashless with e-challan machines

JAIPUR: The traffic police in Jaipur and Jodhpur will go cashless with Rajasthan police buying e-challan machines that would accept debit cards and make transactions from e-wallet mobile apps.
ADGP (traffic) Pankaj Kumar Singh informed TOI that the new machines will be brought for the traffic police of Jaipur and Jodhpur commissionerates. “People will have lot of options now to pay their challans, if they have e-wallet they can quickly transfer the penalty on the spot,” he added.
Apart from electronic challans, the Rajasthan police will also buy new body-worn cameras that will help the police to bring greater transparency into challan system.“We will install dash board cameras into highway patrol vehicles. And the staff deployed inside vehicles will wear body cameras,” Singh said, adding that the police personnel will have to turn on their cameras before they interact with motorists.
The dash cameras will help record the video footage of the traffic offenders while also giving a clear picture of what had happened at the spot. The new modern technology will be one of its kinds in the state. “Once the police personnel wind up their duties they can transfer the data into the computer using bluetooth,” Singh told TOI.
ADGP Pankaj Kumar Singh said that the new technology will also help minimize the use of paper rolls. “The new machines will be procured very soon and distributed to traffic cops in Jaipur and Jodhpur,” he said.
One of the major benefits of using e-wallets for traffic challans include cashback that many UPI companies offer. The Jaipur traffic police in 2017 had first introduced the cashless challan, but did not have facility for debit cards and payments through e-wallets.
