JAIPUR: A 26-year-old labourer was killed in an explosion near Mahajan firing range area under Rajiyasar police station in Sriganganagar district.
According to SHO Suresh Kumar, Manpreet Singh, a native of Punjab was lighting up a stove inside an old house located near the range when a loud explosion happened. “This makeshift house was set up about 10 years ago by labourers of a scrap contractor.
Some leftover scrap with explosive content was also there. On Friday when Singh was lighting up the stove, the dormant explosive may have become active due to the heat and exploded,” he added. Police told TOI that Singh was completely blown up in the explosion.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that the labourers were living in these abandoned houses which are about 550 metres away from the firing range. These houses were used by scrap labourers and we think that some explosive materials were buried there,” he said.
The senior officials of the police and the Army arrived at the spot and took stock of the situation.
