JAIPUR: At a time when state BJP was facing a lot of turmoil around the 2018 assembly elections, it was Madan Lal Saini who emerged as a saviour and was chosen to keep the flock together. A party veteran, Saini’s elevation to the state party president six months before the crucial assembly polls, came as a surprise to many.
Saini activated the old network in the party in no time and started reaching out to the different factions.
He received party’s pat for successfully bringing several party leaders together, giving new strength to the party and was also credited to have paved the way for party’s victory in all 25 Lok Sabha seats.

His biggest litmus test was to keep all factions together during the distribution of tickets for assembly and parliamentary polls. “He acted as an interlocutor between the party high command and the then CM Vasundhara Raje’s slugfest over the distribution of tickets. Despite his ill health, he worked for 16-18 hours a day and averted several disputes among the senior party leaders,” said a party source.
The leader’s long association with the RSS and his non-controversial image, made him the only candidate accepted for the post of party president by all factions in the party. The stalemate for the post of party president continued for three months after Raje opposed the party president Amit Shah’s choice, union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
“Saini was re-introduced into the state politics in March 2018, after he was nominated to Rajya Sabha. In three months, his name was considered at the eleventh hour by the party for the post of state president.
Raje, who was facing the flak of the central party leaders for delaying the appointment, gave her immediate consent on Saini’s name and the rest is history,” said a source. That made 2018 probably the most “successful” year in Saini’s political career.
