JAIPUR: A man was caught at the Jaipur Airport carrying six live cartridges and a magazine on Monday afternoon. Dinesh Kumar was to take the flight from Jaipur to Surat and had checked in with firearms in his luggage. He was handed over to the police and the preliminary probe revealed that he has an arms licence. However, firearms are not allowed on board private airlines and Kumar’s questioning is on.
The airport authorities caught the firearms when the luggage was scanned.
Lakhan Singh, SHO, Sanganer police station told TOI, “Kumar was supposed to take the afternoon flight to Surat but was stopped when the cartridges were found in his luggage. He did have a licence, so it is not a case of illegal transportation of firearms.”
According to the rule, no one can carry any firearms or even toy replicas on board the flight. Kumar is a businessman from Surat who had travelled to Jaipur for some work. “On March 14, due to model code of conduct, Kumar had gone to the local police station in his town to deposit his firearms but for some reason, the authorities did not take them. After that he came to Jaipur and by mistake carried the cartridges in his medicine box. They were not detected then. However, at Jaipur airport showed up in the scan. We did not find anything suspicious and it appeared to be a genuine mistake on his part,” added a police official.
Kumar was questioned by the Sanganer police who verified his licence as well the place where the firearms were purchased from. After questioning, he was let go.
