JAIPUR: The death toll in Sunday’s pandal collapse tragedy in Barmer’s Jasol town jumped to 15, while three others were critically injured at AIIMS-Jodhpur on Monday. Chief minister Ashok Gehlot rushed to the grieving town and offered all possible help to the injured and the family members of the deceased on Monday morning.
To avert such incidents in future, Gehlot while talking to media persons at Jasol helipad, announced that state will issue an advisory on such programmes.
“The advisory will be issued which includes procedures for holding such programmes,” said Gehlot.
Jasol police has filed a case against the tent and generator owner for negligence in providing services, on Monday. Police filed a case under IPC secions 304 and 336. Till the last report came in, nobody was arrested.
Earlier in the day, Gehlot consoled the bereaved families by visiting their homes, hospitals and crematorium. “Rajasthan stands by you in this time of grief and sorrow, I assure you that government will not leave any stone unturned in providing treatment to the injured,” said Gehlot.
He visited the spot where the fateful Ram Katha was organized on Sunday and spoke to the witnesses of the incident, public representatives and government officials to take the first hand information on how the accident had occurred. “People have said that the programme was held in haste and tent was also arranged in haste, which should not have been done,” said Gehlot. The government has assigned the investigation to the divisional commissioner of Jodhpur. “The matter is being investigated and strict action will be taken against the accused,” said Gehlot. He also said that they are considering opening a blood bank at Balotara tehsil which includes Jasol. “The setting up of a trauma centre at Balotara is also being considered positively,” said Gehlot.

He spent an hour at Nahata Hospital and inquired about the health condition of the victims. He directed the doctors to not compromise on the treatment. “Instructions have been issued to the doctors at Jodhpur and Jaipur to provide all possible help,” said Gehlot. He praised the way the district and police administration handled the situation.
The incident happened on June 23, where the tent at a religious congregation collapsed, leading to the death of 15 people, who had assembled to hear the Ram Katha there.
Gehlot also visited Jodhpur after Jasol and visited Mathuradas Mathur Hospital to meet the injured of the tent collapse incident undergoing treatment. He directed the doctors for proper treatment of the victims.
He also met and consoled the bereaved family members of Shri Avinash Vyas, who also died in the tent tragedy, at his residence in Shastri Nagar, Jodhpur.
