JAIPUR: At a time when state Congress is trying to come to terms with the poll debacle in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan and the party is embroiled in a rift, deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot has found a new way to connect with the people during his two-day field visits to three districts – Sirohi, Jalore and Pali.

After reaching Kasela village in Jalore district on Sunday evening, he slept under the open sky in a farmland belonging to farmer Jaikishan.
Pilot had stayed in this village earlier also when the Congress was in opposition in the state. He had then promised the villagers that he would return among them once the Congress is in power.

On his return to Kasela, Pilot interacted with the farmers and villagers to understand their problems better and how they were coping with the sweltering heat at present. In the morning, Pilot was seen brushing his teeth with a ‘neem daatun’ and shaving in the most traditional manner, giving a rural touch to his actions.

Pilot was offered ‘ker-Sangri ki sabji’, buttermilk and rabri along with chapati in a thatched house, which was set up for his stay at the village. He had earlier visited the village about two years ago and had spent the night there.

On his second day of inspection in Jalore and Pali districts, Pilot instructed the officials to improve the wage rate under MGNREGA scheme. A couple of MATES worker under the scheme in Bharudi panchayat complained to him about the delay in payment of wages. MGNREGA Commissioner P C Kishan said the delay in payment of wages of the MATES workers and junior technical assistants was also because of the delay in the release of Rs 1500 crore funds by the central government.

“In terms of MGNREGA performance, all the three districts were below average but Pali and Jalore districts were better than Sirohi district.
The officials in the districts have been directed to improve the performance under all the 10 parameters like timely payment, PD generation, wage rate and others. The minister also instructed that the work-site management must be improved under the scheme,” said Kishan.
