JAIPUR: Thousands of Class V students who opted for Urdu in the state are finding themselves in a confusing situation as to whether they will be allowed to take the board exam or not on April 10.
While issuing the time-table for Class V board exams, the Rajasthan education department specifically mentioned that Urdu language paper is for students studying in madrasas around the state.
This sidelined thousands of students studying Urdu in various government and private schools in the state. Urdu teachers protested against this and finally, on March 13, 2019, the government issued amended orders that students studying in government and private schools are also eligible for the board exam for Urdu language.
However, the change doesn’t reflect on the admit cards issued on March 22, and Urdu language paper for ‘Madrasa Students Only’ is mentioned. This has put the parents in a dilemma whether their wards will be allowed to sit for the exam or not.
President of Urdu Shikshak Sangh, Rajasthan, Ameen Kayamkhani while talking to TOI, expressed concern about the fate of these students. “Around two years back, a similar situation arose and students other than madrasas were not allowed to sit for the Urdu language board exam. I have been receiving phone calls from parents all over the state. This is sheer negligence on the part of the government and we demand that admit cards be re-issued,” said Kayamkhani.
The principal of District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Arunesh Sinha said a committee is looking into the matter and new orders will soon be issued to rectify the mistake. As admit cards are already issued, Sinha said that re-issuing new admit cards will waste time.
