Quota above 50% not possible: Former Lok Sabha secretary Subhash Kashyap
JAISALMER: Former Lok Sabha secretary Subhash Kashyap has said exceeding the 50% limit to meet Gujarat’s Patidar leader Hardik Patel’s demand is not possible as per the Supreme Court orders. No party in the country can exceed the 50% reservation limit and dividing community and caste in this way is wrong, he said.
Kashyap said the announcement to give reservation is just for the sake of election and whether it will be fulfilled nor not is totally imaginary.
He said this during his stay in Jaisalmer in an exclusive interview.
He said elections are yet to take place and at this time it cannot be predicted whether Hardik will come to power. Despite this, the Patidar leader’s announcement for reservation is just an election announcement, which every party makes during before elections.
He added that even if it is considered that a law be made and the President gives his approval but high court and the Supreme Court will never announce this law as valid because it cannot be justified. Supreme Court has already given its order at several occasions in which as per Constitution reservation cannot be more than 50%. Looking to it neither such question should be raised nor such announcements be made that are not justified.
He said Patidar caste is very strong economically and is not socially backward then in such a situation giving reservation from OBC is not at all right and as per the makers of Constitution, all citizens should get equal rights.
