‘Tahir, Javed were hired by kingpin of cow smuggling’
ALWAR: The interrogation of Tahir Khan and Javed Khan, alleged aides of Ummar Khan is throwing more light on cow smuggling in Mewat region. The Alwar police claimed that during interrogation the accused alleged that 50-year-old Mehboob Khan of Ghatmika village is the kingpin of illegal cow smuggling and is also a history-sheeter with at least 100 cases registered against him.

Tahir and Javed were arrested by the police for their alleged role in cow smuggling along with Ummar Khan who was killed in firing allegedly by robbers almost a fortnight ago.
Police said that Mehboob Khan is a history-sheeter of Pahadi police station area of Bharatpur who lures people to his village and nearby areas to pursue cow smuggling. “People are paid between Rs 4,000 and Rs 10,000 per vehicle for ferrying cows from one place to another. It was also found that these cows from Rajasthan are sent to Haryana via Firozpur Jhirka which is close to Pahari and Gopalgarh areas in Bharatpur,” said Rahul Prakash, superintendent of police, Bharatpur on Thursday.
Police also claimed that Tahir said he is into cow smuggling since 20 years. “He said that he was asked by Mehboob to load vehicles with cows and send them to Firozpur Jirka village, Haryana. It was also found that a cow or a bull is sold between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 depending upon their weight. From one vehicle carrying cows Mehboob used to earn Rs 80,000 out of which he used to give some share to the people who risked their lives to take these animals illegally from Bharatpur to Haryana,” said a senior police officer.
When asked what benefit a person got by risking his life, an officer answered, “They used to get Rs 10,000 per round only if they were not caught by the police and used to transport the cows to the location suggested by their employer.”
