Teen girl drowns while bathing in Banas River

JAIPUR: A 15-year-old girl drowned in Tonk when she along with two of her friends went to bathe in River Banas. The incident happened on Monday morning and while her friends could be saved in time, the victim drowned. The deceased has been identified as Preeti Gujjar who had gone to bathe in the river around 7am on Monday.
“The girl had gone with her friends to bathe in the river and witnesses told us that she ventured to the deep end.There were other youngsters also who were taking a swim in the river and while few of them helped the other girls, Preeti could not be saved. Our initial enquiry has revealed that she did not know how to swim and was unware of the risk till it was too late,” said head constable Raja Ram of Barooni police station in Tonk district.
Police did not find anything suspicious and claimed that it was a case of accidental drowning. “We questioned the witnesses present at the spot and it appears to be a case of drowning. The girl’s family has also not raised any questions in the matter,” he added. The cremation was done on Monday.
