KOTA: Lekhraj Bheel of Mogayabeeh Bhilan village in Jhalawar district has become the first person to crack engineering entrance exam from his nondescript village. Lekhraj's father Mangilal Bheel and mother Sardari Bai are MGNREGA workers and are yet to come to terms with the fact that their son will study engineering. Lekhraj has secured 10740 category rank in JEE-Main and wishes to do engineering from NIT.

Lekhraj has been a good student but did not know anything about career in engineering and did not even know about JEE. In his X board exam in 2017, he secured the first position in district merit list, with 93.83 per cent marks while studying in the State Aadarsh Higher Secondary School, Khatakhedi.
Impressed by his high percentage in class VIII, teachers at the village government school talked to his family and advised them to send him to Kota to take admission in a coaching class there to prepare for entrance exams for engineering and medical colleges, but they refused on the grounds of their poverty.
Later, some of the teachers from his school brought him to Kota and he was offered free coaching for JEE. Surprisingly, it was only after studying for four months at a coaching institute, that Lekhraj got to know that he was preparing for JEE and will get admission in an engineering college through the exam.
Lekhraj completed his education up to class X at a Hindi-medium government school, about 6km away from his village, where mathematics and science teachers were not available. Lekhraj studied on his own and got 93.83 per cent marks in class X. Most of the village's youths work as wage labourers and do other work, but none of them is literate or studying. Lekhraj's father did not know what was engineering until Lekhraj was declared eligible in JEE-Main 2019. After completing his engineering degree, Lekhraj wants to improve the condition of his family and village. He prepared for the entrance exam from Allen Career Institute.
